About Sascan
Revolutionizing Cancer Screening with Biophotonics
Founded in 2015 by Dr Subhash Narayanan, a laser scientist with a strong interest in the development of Biophotonics products, Sāscan is an emerging healthcare innovation company focused on developing affordable cancer-care solutions using Biophotonics technology. The company was built by a multidisciplinary team of doctors, engineers, and design thinkers dedicated to improving healthcare accessibility, especially for rural communities. The name “Sascan” is inspired by the Hindi word “Sāns” (breath) and “can” from cancer, reflecting the company’s use of oxygenated hemoglobin absorption mapping to identify potentially malignant tissue changes.
Sascan’s mission is to create accessible and sustainable healthcare technologies for early cancer detection and treatment. Its flagship product, OralScan, is a handheld multimodal imaging device designed for non-invasive, real-time oral cancer screening and biopsy guidance. Powered by advanced multispectral imaging technology and intuitive software, OralScan enables even trained health workers to capture patient data and share reports with clinicians for further evaluation.
Driven by the vision of saving lives, Sascan is expanding its innovation pipeline into cervical, colon, and aero-digestive tract cancer management. Upcoming solutions include CerviScan, a next-generation alternative to conventional digital colposcopy, along with advanced photodynamic therapy (PDT) devices for treating oral lesions and drug-resistant infections such as diabetic foot ulcers.
